Knights complete a72 yard drive in the game's final minutes, but cannot convert the extra point opportunity, losing to the Northwestern College Eagles 20-19 Saturday. Down 6-0 at the half, the Knights made a good second half adjustment, shutting down a Eagles running game that rushed for 140 yards in the first half. Led by running back Ben Freedman (26 carries, 134 yards), the Eagles (3-2 overall, 2-1 in UMAC) were held to just 74 yards on the ground in the game's final 30 minutes.
The Knights countered with senior running back Noah Herrmann, who again went over the 100 yard mark for the third consecutive game. Herrmann finished with a game-high 135 yards.
In a very even match-up, the Knights (2-3, 2-2) struggled with turnovers, fumbling twice, including one on their own seven yard line that eventually led to an Eagles touchdown. Defensively for the Knights, senior defensive lineman Tom Strackbein had a career day, ending the game with six tackles, one sack, a forced fumble, one pass break-up, and a partially blocked punt.
Next up the Knights travel to Morris Saturday to face off against the UMAC North Division leading UM-Morris Cougars. Kickoff is at 1:00pm.
