Knights Roll in Opener

The Knights used the big play to overtake Maranatha in their home opener, defeating the Crusaders 35-17.  Making his collegiate debut, freshman quarterback Greg Holzhueter didn't take long to make an impact, scampering 49 yards to pay dirt two minutes into the first quarter, giving the Knights a 7-0 lead.  Holzhueter also connected with Knights senior wide receiver Jake Schwartz for a 30 yard touchdown with just under seven minutes remaining in the quarter.  But it was the Knights two-headed running back combo that set the stage.  Senior Joel Voss and sophomore Alex Hunt each rushed for over 100 yards as the Knights put up 326 yards on the ground, the most the Knights have ever put up against Maranatha.  Voss grinded out 131 yards on 26 carries as Hunt acted as the big play back, netting two touchdown runs of over 50 yards each.  The Knights defense held the Crusaders to 225 yards of offense, led by senior defensive tackle Seth Scheuerlein's 10 tackles, including 4 1/2 for a loss.  Scheuerlein also accounted for one of the Knights two sacks on the day.  Box Score
