Nov. 20 - Three Knights Named First Team All-UMAC

Seth Scheuerlein, Matt Rothe and Caleb Free were named First Team All-UMAC for their play this season for the MLC football team. Aaron Voss, Ryan Kolander, Leslie Arthurton, Chuqee Fletcher, Steve Gurgel, Benjamin Olson and Ben Reichel were named to the second team. Andrew Becker was given honorable mention consideration. Nov. 11 - Voss, Free Named Players of the Week

Aaron Voss and Caleb Free were named UMAC Offensive and Special Teams Players of the Week for their play in last Saturday's season finale at St. Scholastica. Voss rushed for 147 yards and a touchdown on his way to becoming the second MLC player to break the 1,000 yard mark for the season. This is the second time this season that Voss has been named Offensive Player of the Week, and he is the second consecutive Knight to receive the honor (joining Greg Holzhueter last week).

 

Free was name Special Teams Player of the Week for his work as a punter against CSS. Free punted the ball four times for an average of 41.5 yards per kick. He also put one punt inside the 20-yard line

 

Nov. 8 - Knights Close Season with 49-20 Win

The MLC football team scored 36 unanswered points after trailing 7-6 in the early going in a 49-20 win at St. Scholastica Saturday afternoon. The Knights were led by quarterback Greg Holzhueter, who passed for 172 yards and three scores. Running back Aaron Voss ran for 147 yards and one touchdown on the day, giving him 1005 yards rushing on the season and making him the second player in MLC history to break the 1,000 yard mark. Receiver Ryan Kolander torched the CSS secondary for the second consecutive week, catching three passes for 57 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, the Knights were once again led by Matt Rothe, who recorded 15 tackles and one forced fumble.

 

Nov. 5 - Holzhueter Wins Offensive Player of the Week

Quarterback Greg Holzhueter was named UMAC Offensive Player of the Week for his play in the Knights' 77-42 win over St. Scholastica at Dome Day last week. Holzhueter led the offense to an MLC record with 77 points, completing 13 of 19 passes for 203 yards and two touchdowns, while also running for 139 yards and two touchdowns.

Oct. 25 - Knights Celebrate Homecoming with 28-14 Win

The Knights got a big effort from their starting backfield Saturday in a 28-14 win over Macalester. Aaron Voss ran for 149 yards and three touchdowns on the day, including a 71 yard touchdown run in the third quarter that gave put the Knights in full command of the game. Quarterback Greg Holzhueter completed seven of his nine pass attempts for 92 yards and a touchdown to Ryan Kolander. Andrew Becker also had a workman-like performance, rushing for 71 yards on 14 carries. The defense was led by Matt Rothe, who recorded 7.5 tackles.

 

Oct. 18 - Knights Lose Heartbreaker to Crown

The MLC football team lost to Crown 39-35 Saturday afternoon. Crown running back Lemone Johnson scored on a ten-yard run with 16 seconds remaining to put Crown ahead. The Knights were led by Aaron Voss, who scored two rushing touchdowns and ran for a total of 120 yards. Andrew Becker and Greg Holzhueter each added a rushing touchdown, while Holzhueter connected with Caleb Free for a passing touchdown as well.

 

Oct. 11 - Knights Fall to Northwestern 45-10

The Knights fell behind early and were never able to recover as they lost to Northwestern College 45-10 Saturday afternoon. MLC was led by Andrew Becker, who ran for 46 yards on nine carries. Aaron Voss added 32 rushing yards the lone touchdown on the day for the Knights. The MLC defense struggled, allowing 463 yards, but was led by Matt Rothe, who recorded 14 total tackles and a sack.

 

Oct. 4 - Knights Rush for 365 Yards in 35-7 Win

Andrew Becker led the charge for a MLC running attack that produced 365 yards rushing in a 35-7 win over UM-Morris Saturday. Becker ran for a career high 185 yards (the sixth highest total in MLC history) and two touchdowns on just 13 carries on the day. Aaron Voss added two touchdowns for the Knights, who improved to 4-1 on the season with the win. The Knights attempted just one pass on the day and forced four Morris turnovers. The defensive effort was led by Benjamin Reichel, who intercepted two passes on the day.

 

Sept. 30 - Loberger Named UMAC Defensive POW

Sophomore Ryan Loberger was named UMAC Defensive Player of the Week for his play in the Knights' 41-16 win over Trinity Bible College last weekend. Loberger tied a school record with three interceptions in the game and also recorded three tackles and a pass break-up. Loberger is the second MLC player to win the award, joining Matt Rothe from earlier in the season.

 

Sept. 27 - Knights Tackle Trinity Bible College 41-16

The MLC football team used its final tune-up for UMAC play to its advantage as they rushed past Trinity Bible College 41-16. The Knights kept things on the ground throughout, putting only 11 passes in the air and rushing for 265 yards on 45 carries. Greg Holzhueter led the Knights with 74 yards rushing and two touchdowns on just five attempts, one of which went 57 yards. Aaron Voss notched one score and 46 yards rushing, while Andrew Becker had 56 yards rushing on eight carries.

 

Sept. 16 - Voss, Rothe Named UMAC Players of the Week

Aaron Voss and Matt Rothe were named Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for their performances against Hamline. Voss rushed for 160 yards and two touchdowns on the day, while Rothe recorded a game high 14 tackles, 1.5 of which came behind the line of scrimmage.

 

Sept. 13 - Knights Fall to Hamline 19-13

MLC scored on its first possession and equaled Hamline's 297 yards but came up short in rain-filled home opener. Aaron Voss led the Knights with 160 yards rushing and both MLC touchdowns on the day. 91 of Voss' yards came after the half, as he led a nine-play, 80-yard drive to tie the score with four minutes left in the third quarter. Hamline quickly responded, scoring with 1:36 to play in the third and held on the rest of way for the six-point win. Greg Holzhueter completed 14 of 26 passes for 134 yards on the day, while Ryan Kolander led the Knights with seven catches for 54 yards receiving.

 

Sept. 6 - Knights Beat Maranatha 40-7

MLC jumped out to a 34-0 halftime lead and cruised to a 40-7 win in the season opener at Maranatha. The Knights rushed for 317 yards on the day, led by Brian Sauer and Aaron Voss, who rushed for 82 and 78 yards respectively. Voss scored two touchdowns on the day, while Sauer had one 75-yard touchdown scamper in the game's opening minute to get the Knights rolling. Quarterback Greg Holzhueter accounted for 80 yards passing and one score while also rushing for 56 and a touchdown. Defensively, the MLC held Maranatha to just 41 yards rushing and 220 yards of total offense.
