The Knights are beginning to wonder if their season could become a sequel to the movie Groundhog's Day. The Knights, as has been the case all year, dug themselves a hole in the first half and made a late second half rally, only to see them fall a basket short, losing to Northwestern 81-79. With Northwestern and UM-Morris both winning today, they both are still tied for first place in the UMAC.
Freshman guard Jake Schwartz caught on fire in the second half, nailing seven three-point field goals, tying the school record for made three-point baskets in a game, and breaking the record for most three-pointers in a half. Schwartz scored a career-high 33 points, which was also a team-high on the season.
The Knights outscored the Eagles 51-40 in the second half. The Knights' 51 points in the half was also a team-high on the season. The Knights came within one point twice in the final 90 seconds of play, but couldn't make the final bucket to give the Knights the lead or the victory. Senior guard Drew Kock hit a three-pointer with four seconds to go, bringing the Knights to within one, trailing 79-80. Senior guard Dan Unke's desperation shot came up short after grabbing the rebound on Eagles guard Joseph Sir's second free-throw attempt with 1.4 seconds remaining in the game. Unke scored 22 points on 9-of-17 shooting.
Eagles center and 2003-04 UMAC Player of the Year Jeff Versteeg led the Eagles with 20 points and missed the double-double by one rebound, grabbing nine boards on the night.
