After dropping the conference opener to UM-Morris 79-75, the Saints have won two in a row, defeating Presentation and North Central. The Knights lost both of its conference games last weekend and was looking to get back on track with a win yesterday against Northland (results not available at press time).
The Saints (5-8 overall, 1-1 in UMAC) are led by junior forward Robert Jackson, who averages 14 ppg. Freshman standout Brady Zubke, a 6’6” forward, is averaging just under 10 ppg and is continuing to improve. The Saints are a young team, with only four seniors on the squad. As they continue to grow, they will give many more headaches to head coaches in the UMAC.
The Knights(1-8, 0-2) have taken five in a row against the Saints, dating back to the 2001-02 season. In their last meeting, senior guard Dan Unke had the hot hand, scoring 24 points on 8-of-11 shooting, leading the Knights to a 78-66 victory.
In order for the Knights to walk away with another victory, they will need to stop looking at the big picture and take it one team, one game at a time. And that will start with St. Scholastica, as they try to pick up a valuable conference victory tonight.
