The Knights went toe-to-toe with the best team in the UMAC and held their own Saturday night. The Knights kept the #1 UMAC Cougar offense in check, holding them 11 points under average. The Knights held a nine-point lead with two minutes remaining, draining five three-pointers on five consecutive possessions in the midst of a 23-5 run. In the final 90 seconds, the Knights were unable to keep the momentum and watched as the Cougars scratched and clawed their way back, gaining the lead and going on to defeat the Knights 78-73. The Knights shot 57% in the second half and 63% from behind the arc. The Knights went into halftime trailing 39-32, with the Cougars sharp-shooting sophomore center Brandon McNally draining four three-pointers in the first 20 minutes of play. The Knights made some nice halftime adjustments, shutting down the Cougars three-point shooting in the second half. The Cougars were 0-6 from downtown in the second half.
After Friday night's disappointing loss to Presentation, which included several defensive lapses in the second half, the Knights rebounded nicely against UM-Morris, playing one of its best games of the season. The Knights defense forced 20 turnovers and had nine steals on the night. Despite being out-rebounded 46-24, the Knights contested every Cougar shot in the second half.
Senior guard Dan Unke was held scoreless in the first half, but still made his presence felt down the stretch, hitting three crucial shots, including two of the five three-pointers in the 23-5 run.
Sophomore guard Caleb Kurbis led the Knights with 16 points.
The Knights finish off its three-game homestand on Tuesday night against Bethany, with tip-off at 7:30 pm.
