Feb. 26 – Season Ends with 64-40 Loss at Northland

The MLC women’s basketball team saw its season come to a close in a 64-40 loss at Northland in the semi-finals of the UMAC tournament. The Knights struggled offensively throughout the contest, shooting 19.6 percent from the floor for the game and committing 19 turnovers. MLC was led by Hannah Bode and Katherine Kogler, who scored eight points apiece. For more information on the UMAC tournament, click here.

 

Feb. 24 – Knights Advance with Win over Saints

The MLC women’s basketball team advanced to the semi-finals of the UMAC tournament with a win over St. Scholastica by the score of 55-41 Tuesday night. The win was the third for the Knights over the Saints this season. The Knights defense shined brightest on the night, holding the Saints to just 20.4 percent shooting for the night and forcing 15 turnovers. The Knights also outrebounded the Saints 53-37. Carrie Fritzler, Nicole Lehman and Erica Babinec led the Knights with ten points apiece. Fritzler also added eight rebounds and five blocked shots in just 21 minutes of action, while Lehman added seven boards. For more information on the UMAC tournament, click here.

 

Feb. 21 - Knights Clinch Fourth Place with Win at CSS

The MLC women's basketball team clinched fourth place and a first-round playoff home game with a 66-54 win at St. Scholastica Saturday. The Knights were led by Hannah Bode, who scored a season-high 19 points. Erica Babinec added 14 points and ten rebounds, while Lissa Babinec scored ten points, grabbed seven rebounds and dished out seven assists. The Knights dominated the glass, outrebounding the Saints 56-29 for the game. Katherine Kogler led the team with 11 rebounds.

 

Feb. 20 - Knights' Rally comes up Short at Northland

The MLC women's basketball team fell behind early, but battled back to take the lead for stretches in the second half before falling at Northland College 62-56 Friday night. The Knights started the second half on a 12-2 run to take the lead after trailing at the half by five, but were unable to hold on for the win. Lissa Babinec led the Knights with 16 points and added six assists and five steals, while Erica Babinec scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds.

 

Feb. 17 - Knights Finish Home Schedule by Beating Rams

The MLC women's basketball team jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in a 83-39 win over North Central Tuesday in the final home game of the regular season. The Knights had 13 different players score, led by Hannah Bode's 18 points on 9-12 shooting from the floor. Erica Babinec chipped in 14 points, while Nicole Lehman, Sarah Free and Emily Boldt had eight points apiece.

 

Feb. 14 - Knights fall late at Presentation

The MLC women's basketball team was unable to hold onto a one-point halftime lead in a 83-79 loss at Presentation Saturday. The Knights put four scorers in double figures, led by Hannah Bode's 17 points, while Erica Babinec chipped in 15 points, six rebounds and six assists. Lissa Babinec grabbed nine rebounds to go with her ten points, while Nicole Lehman also added ten points. Sara Gregerson scored 19 of her game-high 31 points in the second half for the Saints.

 

Feb. 7 - Charity Stripe Leads Eagles to Victory

The MLC women's basketball team forced Northwestern into 24 turnovers and 37.5 percent shooting from the field, but lost a 70-62 decision Saturday because the Eagles made 35 of 43 attempts from the foul line. The Eagles' Ariel Liesch made just one field goal in nine attempts, but went 13-13 from the line on her way to 15 points. Lissa Babinec led the Knights with 15 points, while Nicole Lehman and Hannah Bode scored 11 and ten points respectively.

 

Feb. 6 - MLC Pressure Calms Storm

The MLC women's basketball team forced 43 turnovers in a 77-38 win over Crown Friday night. The Knights had 26 steals for the game, giving them 56 in the last two games combined, and outscored Crown 43-18 in the second half to pull away. Every player on the Knights scored, with Kadie Drake coming off the bench and leading the team with a career-high 13 points.

 

Feb. 3 - Knights Cruise to Win over North Central

Every player on the MLC women's basketball team played and scored in a 84-39 win at North Central Tuesday night. The Knights pounded the glass, out-rebounding North Central 41-24, including 24 offensive rebounds. The Knights also pressured the Rams all night, finishing the night with 30 steals and forcing 42 turnovers for the game. Three players finished in double figures for the Knights, including Kadie Drake, who scored a career high ten points.

 

Jan. 30 - Knights Catch Fire in Second Half for 65-45 Win

The MLC women's basketball team turned a 28-24 halftime deficit into a blowout win with an 18-0 run to start the second half in a 65-45 win over Bethany Friday night. Both teams struggled offensively in the first half, but the Knights turned up the defense in the second half, forcing 21 Viking turnovers and forcing Bethany to shoot just 20.8 percent from the floor. Erica Babinec led the Knights with 17 points and ten rebounds on just seven shots, while Hannah Bode chipped in 15 points and three steals.

 

Jan. 26 - Knights Fall at UW-River Falls

The MLC women's basketball team lost at UW-River Falls 73-55 Monday night in a make-up game originally postponed on Jan. 12 due to bad weather. The Knights struggled offensively with turnovers, committing 26 for the game, and also went cold from the field in the second half, shooting 31.3 percent after halftime and 39.6 percent for the game. Erica Babinec led the Knights with 20 points, giving her three games of at least 20 points in her last four games. Hannah Bode added 11 points for MLC.

 

Jan. 24 - Northland Run Halts Knights

MLC trailed 26-23 with just over two minutes to play in the first half against Northland Saturday but watched the Lumberjills go on a 24-3 run over the next 11 minutes of action on the way to a 64-44 Northland win. The Knights made just one field goal in that span and struggled to a 29.1 percent performance from the field for the game. Lissa Babinec paced the Knights with ten points, while Carrie Fritzler grabbed nine rebounds.

 

Jan. 23 - Knights Dominate Second Half in Win over Saints

MLC held St. Scholastica to just 12 points on 4-32 shooting in the second half on its way to blowing out the Saints 73-41. The Knights led CSS at the half by a score of 35-29, but surged at the beginning of the second half with a 21-2 run to give themselves a 25-point lead. Erica Babinec led the way for the Knights with 22 points, while Hannah Bode and Nicole Lehman chipped in 16 and ten points respectively. Bode also added five assists and five steals.

 

Jan. 20 - Erica Babinec Named Player of the Week

Guard Erica Babinec was named UMAC Player of the Week for the second time this season for her performance in the Knights’ 81-69 win at Bethany on Friday, Jan. 16. Babinec led the Knights with 20 points after making nine of 13 attempts from the field. She also grabbed ten rebounds and four steals in helping the Knights to their third win of the conference season.

 

Jan. 16 - Knights Surge Past Rival Vikings

The MLC women's basketball team improved to 3-2 in UMAC play with a 81-69 win at Bethany Friday night. The Knights took control of the game in the second half, busting a three-point halftime lead open with the help of a smothering defense that held Bethany to 17.6 percent shooting for the half. The Knights were led by Erica Babinec's 20 points and ten rebounds, while Lissa Babinec came through with an all-around performance of eight points, eight assists and eight rebounds.

 

Jan. 10 - MLC Scores Season High 88 Points In Win at Crown

The MLC women's basketball team scored a season high in points as it cruised over Crown College 88-51 Saturday. Sarah Free scored 14 of her game and career high 17 points in the first half, making all five of her shots in the half (four of which coming from beyond the three-point line). The Knights dominated the offensive glass when shots weren't falling, grabbing 27 offensive rebounds. On defense, the Knights forced 29 turnovers and allowed Crown to shoot just 32.7 percent from the floor.

 

Jan. 9 - Northwestern Stops Knights 51-38

The Knights struggled following a long layoff over the holidays to a 51-38 loss at Northwestern Friday night. MLC shot 21.8 percent from the field and made just one of 14 attempts from beyond the three-point line. Erica Babinec led the Knights with 12 points and added nine rebounds while Lissa Babinec added nine points and four steals. Nicole Lehaman grabbed ten rebounds for the Knights.

 

Dec. 13 - Knights Lose Heartbreaker 75-73

The MLC women's basketball team took an 11-point lead into halftime but were outscored in the second half 44-31 in a 75-73 loss at Central Saturday. The Knights held the lead most of the way and fought off the Dutch before two free throws by Laura Porter with two seconds remaining put Central on top for good. MLC outshot Central from the floor and beyond the three-point line but struggled from the foul line, going 17-26 from the charity stripe while Central went 20-26. Erica Babinec led the Knights with 17 points and six rebounds, while Hannah Bode joined her in double figures with 12 points.

 

Dec. 9 - Knights Fall at Waldorf 75-59

The MLC women's basketball team struggled shooting from the floor and the free throw line in a 75-59 loss at Waldorf Tuesday night. The Knights shot 37.7 percent from the game from the floor (32.3 percent in the second half) and 47.8 percent from the free throw line (33.3 percent in the second half). Katherine Kogler led the Knights with nine points, while Nicole Lehman scored seven and grabbed a team high seven rebounds. For the game, 12 different players scored for MLC.

 

Dec. 6 - Cougars Top Knights 77-72

The Knights were unable to take advantage of a career high 25 points by freshman Erica Babinec in a 77-72 loss to UM-Morris Saturday. Babinec made four three-pointers, made seven of her eight attempts from the free throw line and also grabbed a team high eight rebounds. Sister Lissa Babinec had nine points and nine assists for the game, while Brittany Jensen came off the bench to score a season high ten points. Nikki Washek led UM-Morris with 21 points.

 

Dec. 5 - Knights Start Conference Season Strong

The MLC women's basketball team won the first game of the UMAC season by beating Presentation 63-54 Friday night. The Knights overcame a rough game offensively, shooting 33.9 percent from the floor and committing 24 turnovers, but made took advantage of the foul line, making 20 of 28 attempts. On the flip side, Presentation made just six of their 20 attempts. Lissa Babinec made nine free throws on her way to a team high 14 points, while Abby Hosbach added ten points and a game high nine rebounds.

 

Nov. 24 - Hamline Takes MLC 74-66

The MLC women's basketball team lost 74-66 to Hamline on Monday night. The Knights forced 19 turnovers but were unable to capitalize on them, scoring just seven points off those miscues. They were led offensively by Erica Babinec, who had a team high 16 points and also grabbed seven rebounds. Nicole Lehman and Hannah Bode joined her in double figures with 11 and ten points respectively. Bode also added three blocks on the day.

 

Nov. 22 - Knights Fall to Marian (Ind.) 62-58

The MLC women's basketball team lost in the championship game of the Silver Lake Invitational Saturday afternoon to Marian College (Ind.) 62-58. The Knights were led by Erica and Lissa Babinec, who scored 16 and ten points respectively. Lissa was named to the All-Tournament team and also had six rebounds on the day. The Knights struggled to execute offensively, shooting 39 percent from the field and committing 27 turnovers for the game. MLC hung in the contest by getting to the foul line 29 times, making 19 of those attempts.

 

Nov. 21 - Knights Dominate in 57-Point Win

Every player from the MLC women's basketball team played and scored in a 87-30 win over Silver Lake College Friday night. The Knights shot 58 percent from the floor in the game and put three players in double figures, led by Emily Boldt with 14 points. Hannah Bode and Lissa Babinec added 12 and ten points respectively. They dominated the game defensively, forcing 25 turnovers for the game, 23 of which came off steals. They also held Silver Lake to just 24 percent shooting for the game.

 

Nov. 19 - Erica Babinec Named UMAC Player of the Week

Freshman guard Erica Babinec was named UMAC Player of the Week for her performance in Grinnell, Iowa, at the Grinnell College Invite. Babinec averaged 18 points, 6.5 rebounds and also three steals per game and was also named to the All-Tournament team.  

 

Nov. 18 - Free Throws Doom MLC Upset Bid

The Knights held the lead for much of the game against Buena Vista Tuesday night but the Beavers pulled ahead with 13 second half free throws to win 73-64. Buena Vista went 19-25 for the game from the charity stripe, while the Knights went 7-10. Lissa Babinec led the Knights with a game high 17 points and also grabbed eight rebounds. Abby Hosbach joined her in double figures with ten points, while Nicole Lehman and Hannah Bode each added eight points. Erica Babinec played a well-rounded game for the Knights, grabbing a game high ten rebounds, swiping six steals and dishing out four assists.

 

Nov. 16 - Knights Fall to Augustana 66-48

The MLC women's basketball team lost to Augustana College 66-48 Sunday afternoon in Grinnell, Iowa. The Knights were led in scoring by Erica Babinec with 18 points. She was joined in double figures in the game by Lissa Babinec, who scored 12 points and also had a game-high six assists. The Knights struggled from the floor all game, shooting 23.5 percent for the game and also went 13-27 from the free throw line. Augustana was led by Kristen Fox, who scored 23 points.

 

After the game, Erica Babinec was named to the All-Invitational team for her performance over the weekend. Erica Babinec scored 18 points in both games for the Knights and also averaged 6.5 rebounds and three steals per game.

 

Nov. 15 - Knights Win Season Opener 65-58

The MLC women's basketball team won its first game of the season Saturday in Grinnell, Iowa 65-58 against Grinnell College. The Knights were led by freshman guard Erica Babinec, who scored 18 points and grabbed five rebounds in just 22 minutes of action. Hannah Bode had nine points, while Nicole Lehman controlled the glass with a game high ten rebounds. The Knights' defense gave Grinnell fits all afternoon, holding them to just 19.4 percent shooting and forcing 14 turnovers.
