MLC Knights Basketball News and Notes

Feb. 19 - Knights Fall Short to Bethany

After winning 4 straight games, the Knights fall short to Bethany.  The Vikings earned a quick 6 point lead in the first half, but the Knights came to life and put a fight for the rest of the half.  At halftime, the Knights were down 27-28.  However, the second half seemed an entirely different ball game with each team doubling their points from the first half.  However, the Knights were unable to secure a lead.  With the 1 minute mark the Knights' fate came to light with Vikings Shanna Bahn's 3 pointer, putting the Vikings up 9 points.  Leading the Knights with 10 points was junior forward Hannah Bode.

Feb. 9 - Knights Relish Spoiler Role

After a difficult start to the season, the Knights have come on strong, winning three of their last four games.  After taking down the #1 ranked team in the conference, the Knights continued to play the spoiler role against a playoff-hopeful Presentation team, defeating the Saints 63-59 Saturday afternoon.  Junior forward Hannah Bode led the Knights with 15 points.

Feb. 1 - Second Chance Falls In Favor of Knights

In their second game against Northland in seven days, the Knights rebound to take game two in a 69-60 win Friday night.  Junior forward Nicole Lehman paced the Knights with a game-high 17 points as the Knights picked up their second conference win.  Despite Lehman fouling out with four minutes remaining, the Knights were resilient and relied on solid defense and good free throw shooting to keep the Lumberjills at bay.  Next up for the Knights is St. Scholastica Saturday in a Parents' Day Showdown.

Jan 21- Knights Defeat North Central

The Knights played an awesome game today bringing out the best in both teams.  In the first half, the Knights gained a small 29-22 lead that they had to work for.  However in the second half, the Rams' 7-woman roster was unable to maintain the Knights from continuing their lead.  Coach Larry Czer was extremely pleased with the Knights' performance.  Leading the Knights were junior Abby Hosbach with 17 points and junior Hannah Bode with 16 points.

Jan 19- Knights Dominate Crown

The Knights played a domineering game today commanding the lead from the get-go.  Ending the first half up 25-20, the Knights capitalized on the lead finishing the game 47-32.  Thanks to the Knights tough defense that enticed 3 of Crown's players to obtain 5 personal fouls and a 15 point contribution by sophomore Katie Kogler, the Knights enjoyed the sweet taste of tough but well-deserved victory.

Jan 18- Knights Lose Close Game Against Northwestern

The Knights played a close game against the Eagles today and make them work for their win.  Ending the first half down 31-19, the Knights seemed to have lost their fight.  But by the end of the 2nd half they ended up scoring 3 more points than the Eagles, showing that the Knights will never give up fighting.  However, junior Emily Thomas suffered an injury in the final minutes of the game and had to be carried off the floor.  While there is no official word of the seriousness of this injury, all of MLC is praying for her safety.  Junior Nicole Lehman led the team with 11 points.

Dec 17- Knights Suffer Defeat Against Central

The Knights faced off against Central in a game full of action.  The Knights were unable to put up much fight in the first half, ending up 41-19.  However, the Knights emerged from the locker room full of energy, winning the momentum early in the 2nd half.  After a well-placed timeout by Central, the Knights were unable to regain their momentum, ending the game 83-49.  Senior Hannah Bode led the team with 15 points, followed by sophomore Katie Kogler with 10 points.

Dec 11- UW-River Falls Wins a Tough Match Against the Knights

The Knights played a split-personality game against UW-River Falls. In the first half, the Knights played with a tough defense and an offense to match it.  Thanks to this deadly combo, the Knights finished the first half only 4 points behind UW-River Falls.  However in the second half, the Knight's train ran out of steam allowing UW-River Falls to sneak up from behind with a 67-54 win.  Leading the Knights was sophomore Katherine Kogler with 14 points followed up by junior Nicole Lehman's 12 points shooting 4 for7 on the floor.

Dec 6 - Victory Eludes Knights Against Viterbo

The Knights played a tough game against Viterbo and made their opponents work for their 66-34 win.  Senior Hannah Bode lead the Knights with 8 points.  Following her are sophomores Katie Kogler and Leann Swogger with 6 points each.  Hopes are high as the Knights face Bethany in their next match.
