The Cranach House

This is the home of Lucas Cranach the Elder.  He is the official court painter here in Wittenberg.  He is one of the richest and most respected citizens of Wittenberg.  As such he was a member of the Wittenberg's town council for numerous years and was also mayor a number of times.  Lucas Cranach is also a very good friend of Martin Luther.  Martin Luther is Godfather to Lucas's daughter Anna and Lucas is Godfather to Martin's first son Johannes.  Lucas Cranach also served as a witness at Martin and Kathy's wedding.  In addition to painting for the court he has also painted a few pictures of dearly departed Martin Luther which we now feel privileged to have to remember him by.
