Melanchthon's House
This
is Phillip Melanchthon's House. Phillip came to Wittenberg in 1518 to be a
Professor of Greek at Frederick's college (seen to the right of his
house). He was given this beautiful house in 1536 by the Elector.
Phillip
Melanchthon became one of Martin Luther's greatest friends and allies.
It was Melanchthon who wrote the famous Augsburg Confession in which he briefly
and gently (two writing characteristics Dr. Luther has had trouble with) stated
the doctrines to which he and Luther subscribed.
